Recommendations for Cases and Contacts who are around high-risk individuals or settings.

High-risk individuals include people who are age 50 and older, not up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccines including boosters, or have immunosuppressed conditions. High-risk settings include places where high-risk individuals gather (e.g. nursing home, homeless shelter, correctional and detox facility) and/or where strong preventive layers are not in place (e.g. daycare where young children are unable to wear masks).

For cases / contacts who will be around high-risk individuals or high-risk settings. we recommend additional precautions whenever possible:

  • Minimizing unnecessary interactions with others, including staying home if possible
  • Frequent home testing during masking period after diagnosis or exposure
  • Wearing the highest quality mask* available, such as an N95
  • Limiting close contact with individuals who are at higher risk of severe COVID
  • Ensuring high-risk individuals are up-to-date on vaccines prior to visiting
  • Ensuring high-risk individuals wear a high-quality mask when visiting

* High-quality masks include N95, KN95, and KF94 masks. If these are not available, check with your public health team for supply.

UP-TO-DATE WITH YOUR COVID VACCINE MEANS:

  • Everyone aged 6 years and older should get 1 updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to be up to date. Children aged 6 months to 5 years may need multiple doses of COVID-19 vaccine to be up to date, including at least 1 dose of the updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. To reflect the CDC definition changes for being up to date, we will only report on percent of residents who are up to date with their vaccines. We will no longer report on the percent of people who are partially vaccinated or who have completed a primary series at this time. More Information
