Public Health Advisory Notice (PHAN) for Confirmed Plague Case in Apache County

  • The Navajo Department of Health has confirmed a plague case in Apache County within the Navajo Nation.
  • The individual has fully recovered following appropriate medical treatment.
  • Public health officials indicate the current risk to the public remains low.
  • The Diné Bikéyah Public Health Team is working with partners to assess environmental risks and support prevention efforts.

Public Health Advisory: Chickenpox cases confirmed on Navajo Nation

  • Individuals who have never had chickenpox or have not received both vaccine doses may be at risk.
  • Symptoms usually appear 8 to 21 days after exposure and include rash, fever, and fatigue.
  • Vaccines are available free of charge at IHS and Tribal Health facilities.
  • Anyone exposed or experiencing symptoms should contact their healthcare provider promptly.
